General Brick Design Guidance

Please read the following.

  • To receive a full quotation, we would require the following information:
    • Quantity of each brick type. This is the general coverage of brick rounded up to the nearest (m²)
    • The brick type, colour or reference if available.
    • The linear meters of corners (including window reveals), and linear meters of any additional brick (i.e. window heads, string courses).
    • It is recommended that orders include an additional 5% due to waste onsite.
    • The brick bond required. (Stretcher bond as standard, other available on request)
  • Our brick is not structural therefore all proprietary sundries (e.g. windows) should be fixed back to structure.
  • All our bricks are hand finished, therefore please allow for slight variances in size, texture and colour. We work to British Standards tolerance BS EN 771-1 T1, or whichever is greater as shown below:

  • All brick should have proprietary silicone movement/expansion joints.
  • Allow 3-6mm of backing adhesive when setting out the brick position.
  • We have a range of Typical Details to help with detailing your project. These are suggestions and can be adapted, but you should use an architect or qualified professional for all detailed design decisions.
  • We can produce specials outside of our standard range. Please contact Monolith direct with information on your project.
  • DPC is recommended at all external window and door openings.
